A note regarding how the recent tragedy that has rocked the United States and the world will affect AS8:

Today I woke up and the sun was shining, and I was angry. What business does the sun have shining for me, when it will never shine again for the thousands who lie at this moment in what now amounts to two mass graves that used to be buildings?

It seems incomprehensible to many of us that life will go on, and vastly wrong somehow that life *should* go on. Our everyday concerns--car trouble, money trouble, romance trouble, job trouble, personality conflicts--now seem petty and insignificant. For thousands of people, life has ended, and for thousands more--the husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, parents, children, lovers and friends of the victims of these tragedies--life will never be the same again. And so it is with no little reluctance that we turn our attention back to our everyday, mundane affairs--including AS8.

We at AS8 believe that a certain period of respectful mourning is not only appropriate, but needful, both as an acknowledgement of this catastrophic loss of life that will leave all of us forever marked in some way, and also for our own healing. In many ways, it seems tactless and disrespectful to
continue with something ultimately so trivial as a creative writing project for a fictional television show. And so our first and most powerful inclination is to suspend the AS8 project for a period of time.

However, in the words of a very wise and wonderful character--"If [we] quit now, they win." The bastards who undertook this attack did so in the hopes of disrupting and destroying our way of life. We CANNOT let them succeed. Our primary inclination will be to crawl into a hole and pull it in over ourselves until it is safe to venture out once more. This we cannot do, not if we are to ever somehow give meaning to the senseless devastation that took place this week.

And so, this weekend, Sunday, September 16th, we will post our regularly scheduled AS8 episode, "Redrum." We do this as a gesture of defiance, to spit in the eyes of those who think they can terrorize our people with impunity, and in tribute to those who have not only lost their own lives in this tragedy, but for those who survive them and must find a way to carry on and reclaim their lives as well.

Following this week's episode, we will observe a two week hiatus to give us all time to get our emotional bearings back and regain our proper mindset for resumption the AS8 project. Please bear with us during this time of turmoil and upheaval. We hurt, as we know the entire nation is hurting, and we need time to heal and to mourn those we have lost. We will resume on Sunday, October 7th with "Via Negativa" and will proceed from there.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

The AS8 team
"If we quit now, they win."
